Discussed her position and future goals/projects
Marketing
Bobcat Sports Project
- The director of MDOT turned down our marketing project. The state will fund compliance checks through us but we still don’t have permission to fund those. Waiting for an opinion from the county attorney’s office: it’s with Marty Lambert now.
- We can pick up part of the project on our own: $2250 for 2 radio spots per remaining game; and signs posted in arena; DUI message by Coach Ash at Cat/Griz Game. Group voted not to go with this option. Want to try guerilla marketing at the Cat/Griz Game. MHP can post signs next to their mobile unit. Jenna says there are banners in the office that can be used as well.
Halloween
- Ads in several local media through October: Belgrade News, West Yellowstone News, Three Forks Herald. Classified ads in the Chronicle.
- Posters complete and posted by MIP youth and Health Department. Used 25 from last year and had 75 new ones printed.
Holidays
- Begin new campaign mid-November, before Cat/Griz Game. Shanda, KC and Jenna will discuss
- Jenna presented Obvious Ads option for bathroom stall ads and the group decided against these.
Group approved a tentative budget of $2500 for the holiday campaign. Susan motioned; Christina second. Approved.
Other
Shanda suggested the DUI Task Force be on Twitter. Jenna will find out about being able to do that with IT. We can’t do Facebook.
Report on activities
- Legislative Interim Committee: Jenna reported on her experience of the Legislative Interim Committee meeting in September. After a morning of listening to testimony on the importance of Compliance Checks, she decided to testify and asked the committee to clarify language of what a DUI Task Force can and cannot do and explained the situation in Gallatin County where the County Attorney’s Office has decided the Task Force cannot fund compliance checks. She also asked the committee to recommend that Task Forces be able to work drug-impaired driving as well. In the afternoon, she testified on issues in interlock usage.
- Jenna attended a workshop on Adaptive Leadership and the Montana Board of Crime Control conference.
- The stats project has stalled for now: data entry in Excel needs to be done. Jenna’s not sure when she’ll have time to do that.
Finances
Spreadsheets passed out with the preliminary budget and probable expenses through September to show budget for possible projects
Mini-grants and overtime patrols
- Belgrade PD’s request for one new camera approved as presented at last month’s meeting. $2,500. Force motioned to approve; Scott seconded. Motion passed.
- West Yellowstone PD may be looking for some equipment funding. Jenna advised them they first have to be turned down by the state.
- MHP would like funding for overtime patrols during Cat/Griz. Stephen reminded them that we have to have a contract approved first. Jenna will send Cherie the language from the last contract. They would also like to pursue the funding for HGN training. Jenna will forward the information from what Missoula did to Cherie. Est: $3000.
Conferences
- Lifesavers: Jenna and Stephen, who attended the conference last year, suggested perhaps the group send a long-term member like Susan Wordal. Force and Hal also indicated interest in attending.
- Mariah’s Challenge: Jenna gave Bob a flyer on a February conference and suggested he may know some youth who would be interested in applying for a grant to attend.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
